Ralf Helmut STAMMSEN

Doctor of zoology and ethology

Ralf Helmut STAMMSEN has a doctorate in zoology and ethology, a discipline for which his thesis professor was the famous Austrian ethologist Konrad Lorenz, known among other things for his work on geese. The first scientific equine ethologist in Europe in the 1980s to demonstrate that we can take care of horses differently, he is also one of the inspirations for the English writer Nicholas Evans for his novel "The Man Who Whispered in the Ear horses" who contacted him and met him in France. He was interested in his work alongside that of other American horsemen of the era such as Tom Dorrance, Ray Hunt, Buck Brannaman and Monty Roberts. This incredible ability to communicate with horses led him to whisper in the ear of Robert Redford. On the set of the feature film inspired by the book, he takes care of one of the eight stallions. Employed by the American government, he subsequently broke approximately 2,000 wild horses (mustangs). Throughout his career as a horseman, he took charge of some 5,000 difficult horses. He breaks a wild horse in 20 minutes by communicating with him without any violence, without harness, without rodeo. The secret: communication with the horse while respecting its nature and knowing its behavior. He completed his equestrian knowledge alongside Jean d'Orgeix, one of the greatest French riders. After 40 years of passion, rich in almost half a century of knowledge, he finally took the time to share his knowledge about horses with us in 2 event books entitled "Be a horse" and "Ride a horse without ever falling".

"A unique course by a unique man, unique in the equestrian world. Brilliant and thank you for the horses..." Ophélie S. (71-Fr)

"I had the chance to live a day with Helmut. The chance to meet a real horse man, a scientist who is generous with learning and sharing experiences. I, who live with my horses, work with them and humans, I come out of this seminar grown with ways to understand even more and act to have harmony with them. Understanding the role of the dominant or “referent” mare has enlightened me on what my horses need to be well and considered in the right way. When you listen to Helmut, you quickly understand the logic and the behaviors to have. I apply this logic and for several weeks my horses have more reference points, a homeostasis reigns where everyone has their place and are I agree. I wasn't missing much, I even thought I was doing things correctly, but without this explicit seminar, this little extra, I wouldn't have been able to see such fluid communication with my horses. I will definitely come back to other seminars of Dr Helmut and I do not fail to quote him and share for the happiness of the horses. Thank you and see you soon." Alexandra F. (30-Fr)

“Thank you for this day full of teaching and generosity. For me, it was a moment of return to the living, to eternal wisdom, a short but precious moment.” Daniel M. (Belgium)

"I thank Dr. Stammsen for this internship which has given me a lot of knowledge about the behavior of horses. Ralf describes to us with his 40 years of experience, who is the horse in his deep being. Thank you for this extraordinary transmission which touched and marked me. I gained the confidence to approach them with fairness and respect. I am leaving for Canada on Wednesday and I will perhaps have the opportunity to practice during the meetings. I hope to be able to do the training “Ride a horse without ever falling” next year. Murielle R. (44-Fr)

"Very enriching day and Dr RH STAMMSEN is captivating. Following this day, I have some ideas in particular for one of my horses which is complicated. I will not fail to provide news on the progress with this horse. Thank you for this thread driver. I loved it, see you soon." Sylvie S. (56-Fr)

"A new approach to horses, confusing but very innovative, which brought me a certain serenity in my relationships with my six-year-old mare." Eric V. (18 - Fr)

"Thank you to the horses who allowed us to evaluate our cases and then to evolve. Each one gave us something to teach. They shared our experiences. Thank you to the trainees who animated this course with their kindness. Doctor Stammsen is a wonderful soul who gives teaching for The Horses (it is of a simplicity and authenticity which allows us to be at ease from the first moment). Each information given is built on knowledge and practice; we quickly realize that we are missing everything... I really enjoyed meeting him and listening to him, with a lot of wisdom and humor, he manages to say everything! Thank you very much for this beautiful day in our South; sunny by Mr. Sun and Mr. Stammsen." Florence B. (30-Fr)

“Very satisfied with this course, rich in lessons. See you soon for act 2!” Stéphanie P. (36-Fr)

"WONDERFUL... It's incredibly simple, logical, obviously! Yes of course: "study of animal behavior in its natural environment"! And then suddenly we understand everything. All the errors, the errors of belief, of functioning, of gestures etc..., all this programming, which even if we have already questioned a certain number of things continues subtly to make us commit ultimately fundamental errors. Thank you Doc Helmut, in one day you have enabled the little lamp which will with "eureka" to light up. All that remains is to put it into practice, and above all to deprogram. Thank you very much. Catherine K. (61-Fr)

"Very enriching day with Dr. RH STAMMSEN who showed us how to best be with your horse and how to understand him. Dr. STAMMSEN is a very educational person who really wants to pass on his knowledge. Thank you for all this great advice. I recommend ! " Manon J. (23-Fr)

"I devoured the book "be a horse" and I was impatiently awaiting this meeting: I didn't see the day go by! The Dr is passionate and fascinating, I am impatiently awaiting his next books! " Caroline W. (13-Fr)

"This day of training was very enriching, even being the owner of 2 horses, I am a novice. Since this day, I have observed their reactions, their behavior a lot more, I have completely changed my way of being with them. Thank you again to Dr STAMMSEN. Cendrine M. (13-Fr)

“This internship really helped me a lot in my breeding practice. Thank you.” Brigitte O. (03-Fr)

"My wife and I had the joy of doing an internship 50 km from home with Dr. Ralf Helmut Stammsen. Along with 5 other people, during this experiential day, we learned a lot about lifestyle horses in herds in the wild and on a good way to relate to them when they are domesticated and in captivity. Conversion of outlook and habits, our relationship with horses is completely changed. Thank you Dr Ralf Helmut Stammsen.” Laurent C. (17 - Fr)

"A very enriching course which challenges all the usual beliefs about the horse. An approach based on the horse and only him in order to better understand him and adapt according to his innate behaviors. A day which passed too quickly as the information is captivating but opens the door to a lot of reflection. A course to do for anyone looking for a healthier bond with the horse and above all a better understanding of its nature. In short: THANK YOU!" Amandine L. (76-Fr)

"Exciting day where time passed much too quickly. It allowed me to take a different look at my way of working with horses and I feel much more serene. Thanks to Dr STAMMSEN for his patience and his knowledge." Cathy C. (36 - Fr)

"A day full of practical and theoretical information. Many preconceptions are eliminated both on the very nature of the horse, its way of functioning in terms of behavior but also on its diet. The simulation of the functioning of a horde of horses wild animals is extremely instructive for understanding the role of each person. The basic notions concerning safety are very important as well as the place of each person in the “accompanying-horse” tandem. All this information opens a new door of access to better understand and understand this somewhat magical animal." Philippe D. (56 - Fr)

"A day rich in practical lessons in kindness: safety and respect for the horse, key words for a harmonious human-horse relationship. Doctor Ralf Stammsen captivated us by explaining the way of life of wild horses, and well sure how domesticated horses work. A host of details that shake up certain "convictions. Many thanks!" Frédérique B. (78-Fr)

“I took part in the “Be a Horse” training day with Ralf Helmut Stammsen and I am really glad I did. This day was rich in learning both about the exercises with the horses and about the contributions distilled by Professor Stammsen. Today I have a better knowledge and understanding of what any horse needs to be good with humans! If everyone could have these decoding keys from the start of their relationship with horses, the equine world would be much better off, the relationship of complicity with horses would be much more effective and faster. It was, for me, a magical interlude to participate in this day.” Helga PP (30-Fr)
